DEMO AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR On
Tuesday, February 6th,
the Team will demo the robot and talk to students at the Elmonica Elementary school Science Fair.
OMSI DEMO Nine FRC teams from Oregon and SW Washington, with more than 120 students and mentors, joined our Team to demonstrated their 2006 robots in conjunction with OMSI's blockbuster Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit. The OMSI event was planned as a chance for the parents, students, mentors, and sponsors to see what FIRST is about and to get information about joining local teams or starting one of their own.
"One of the major components of the Star Wars exhibit is a look at robotics, both how they are portrayed in the fantasy environment of the Star Wars films and how they exist and work in the real world," said Patrick Managan OMSI lead educator. "This exhibition by FIRST gives visitors a chance to get an up close look at real world robotics and what the possibilities and limitations are but in a really fun and dynamic way."
OMSI was founded in 1944, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is one of the nation's top ten science museums, a world-class tourist attraction, and an educational resource that puts the "wow" in science for the kid in each of us.
OMSI is located at 1945 SE Water Avenue , Portland , Oregon 97214 . For general information, call 503.797.4000 or visit www.omsi.edu.
BOMB SQUAD SALEM POLICE DEPARTMENT Sergeant Beverly and Officer Bennett Rowe invited the team to visit the Salem Police department and learn about the Bomb Squad robots.
This was an experience for students to see real life application of the skills they learn in robotics. The robot is used in real Bomb Squad operations.
Article added at the Hillsboro Argus newspaper with an invitation to the Kickoff.
PORTLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEMO In December 2006, the Team was proud to make a presentation about FIRST and demo the robot at the PCC Sylvania site, where the administration from some engineering departments could learn more about the involvement between the Team and PCC.
INTEL DEMO - VMG The Team was featured at the Volunteer Match Grand reception at Intel. During the reception 150 guests were able to hear about the FIRST program and the robot. Intel engineers, teachers and principals were present at the reception.
The Intel Foundation matches the time that Intel employees spend giving back to our schools with a cash donation. For every 20 hours that Intel employees spend volunteering for our schools, the Intel Foundation will match those hours with a grant of $200. The volunteer hours of all Intel employees at each school are accumulated to determine the total annual grant for that school.
Westview Robotics Team alone was awarded with a check of $13,000!
Thank you mentors! Thank you Intel!
BEAVERTON EDUCATION FOUNDATION RECEPTION We were excited to receive the BEFKids Count grant for the 2007 season again. Thanks Portland General Electric for sponsoring our BEF grant!
The last two years, while receiving the BEF Kids Count grant, our team had the opportunity to share their experience with the BEF board members, BEF donors and Beaverton School District staff, talking about FIRST and demoing the robots.
HilHi and STATE FLL COMPETITIONS Team members have been volunteering at the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Competition for the last two years. In 2005 we also demonstrated the competition robot at the Pre-awards Entertainment.
SYNOPSYS PRESENTATION Every year the Team makes a presentation at the Hillsboro Synopsys site. Team members demonstrate the robot and shared the results of the season with the local engineers.
LEGO TEAMS Our Team members are excited to be mentoring the Bethany Lego Team for two years. It is a great opportunity to our students. They are exposed to a situation where they listen to the younger students, understand their design ideas, and help them to make their dream become reality. The team is coached by Paul Yee. It is formed by students from Jacob Wismer, St. Mary's, and Agape Christian School. If you wish to help them financially or have any questions, please contact Paul at: coach@bethanylego.com
"Dear Westview Robotics Team, I'd like to thank all of you for your support and work this 2006 Lego season. We were able to leave the FLL State Tournament with a 2nd place "Innovative Design" award. Your support and encouragement early in the season certainly helped. Your locomotion tips last season and this season certainly made our robot more reliable. Good luck at the First PNW regionals. We will try to watch you compete! Regards, Paul Yee"
WESTVIEW BACK TO SCHOOL NIGH, CLUB RUSH AND ASSEMBLIES To bring more students to the team and show the school's staff the robot, the team demo at the Back to school night and all days at the Club Rush. The team also demo and speak at the school's assemblies.

BRAZILIAN LEGO TEAM - Martianos During the Championship in Atlanta we had the opportunity to help translate the Martianos Lego Team 5750 presentation. Their simple presentation was enough to show their outstanding research, giving the the First Place Presentation Award.
We would like to thank FIRST for the great research topic chosen this year. The Martianos were able to make a difference in their community, and for sure on their team!
